It was about a year ago that I cut out soda for good.
Ok, I have a can of Coke Zero about once every three to four months at my mom’s house…but that’s it. Not too bad, right?
Yeah, I probably shouldn’t have one at all, but one on very rare occasion is much better than how much soda I used to drink….2-3 cans per day….minimum.
Then came out Soda Stream. We didn’t really use it much, but the soda tasted pretty awful so that stopped me from drinking soda as much in the house (it was usually at my parent’s house only since my mom likes to have some sometimes and I refuse to buy any for my home).
When Matthew and I went vegan, we decided to cut our soda intake significantly because we started to take our health seriously. Since then, we’ve done a great job.
However, sometimes I still crave the flavor of soda. Let’s be real, as fake as stuff like Sprite or Orange Soda is, the overall flavor is pretty good minus all the added sugar and chemicals. Since I like the general flavor of soda, I decided to try and make my own.
And alas, my all-natural lemon lime soda came to be!
I knew that I wanted to start with lemon lime soda cause well…it’s my fave. I also love the flavor of lemon and lime when combined.
While my soda doesn’t have the fizziness or well, fakeness of regular soda, the flavor cannot be exact. However, it is naturally sweetened, still very sweet-tasting, and a great craving satisfier!
I have been obsessed with this ‘soda’ and have been drinking it daily. The best part is that it is pretty healthy since it features coconut water and antixidant-rich lemons and limes. Use agave or maple syrup to sweeten and balance the sour flavor of lemons and limes, and you have yourself a perfect, guilt-free drink that isn’t just empty calories (and has half the calories of regular soda!).
My Lemon Lime Soda makes a perfectly simple and delicious Summer treat! It’s perfect for any event (hint hint 4th of July hint hint), or anytime you want a soda, but want to make some healthier decisions. Either way, I’ve got your back, and I hope you love this REAL soda….was that an oxymoron?
If you don’t think you can make homemade, healthy soda, I urge you to open up your mind! You just might enjoy the taste and satisfaction of consuming real ingredients! I’ve come a long way in 2 years…you can, too.
I hope you like my fake soda that tastes so real. I recommend enjoying a sip on those warm Summer evenings. You could make a batch and keep it in the fridge so that it’s super cold when it’s done…yum!
- 2 Cups Coconut Water
- Juice of 2 small lemons or 1 large lemon
- Juice of 2 small limes or 1 large lime
- 2 Tbsp Agave Nectar or Maple Syrup
- Add all ingredients into a blender and blend until combined, about 10 seconds.
- You can serve immediately or refrigerate for up to 2-3 days.
