Last month, I shared a yoga update, and since yoga has become such an important aspect of my life, I want to continue sharing updates on my progress and my practice.
August was the month of backbends. Recently, my main instructor asked me if I took gymnastics or dance because my back is so flexible. It is actually because I was in a car accident about 4 1/2 years ago, and I had a sore back. I went out of my way to stretch my back out, which has given me quite a bit of flexibility.

I am now able to get into kapotasana, and I have improved on King Pigeon, Bow Pose, and Wheel Pose. I have grown to really enjoy how backbends feel, and I think that I have yet to see my full potential in them.
Also, I was able to hold crow pose for 1 second the other day…seems like a small accomplishment, but it is actually a big deal to me. I always fall when I attempt crow, which is inevitable and perfectly fine. I am feeling myself getting stronger, which has been a big focus of mine.
The month of August was nothing groundbreaking, but I am learning to honor my body and the important of a mind and body connection. My goal for September is to build strength, especially in my triceps, shoulders, and abs.
I also hope to eat as healthfully as I can, and have a cup of tea daily. I want to respect my body and do everything that is good for me. I think that if I do that, my practice becomes more fulfilling and more successful. I don’t have any pose goals because I don’t think that is what yoga is about. If I am able to make any big breakthroughs through my asana practice, I will share it next month. If not, I am sure I will still have much to talk about.
That concludes my monthly update, and as the months go on, I will surely have better understanding of my body and how my practice influences my life.
