We may be in the middle of Spring, and I may be loving fruit smoothies at the moment, but my love for chocolate is infinite. I will enjoy a chocolate smoothie (or, let’s be real…chocolate in general) any day of the year. This amazing Chocolate Coconut Almond Butter Smoothie is no exception.
Now, I feel like I must say that this smoothie and my Lemon Meringue Pie smoothie go against my normal diet. I usually eat a fairly high carb low fat diet just because I personally feel my best when I do. However, when I say HCLF, I do not mean that I follow 80/10/10 (80% carbs, 10% fat, 10% protein). I personally feel best when my diet is 60-75% carbs, and 15-2% fats. My protein is usually around 15%. After lots of trial and error, I have found that this works best for me. Still, most of my smoothies that I have shared thus far have been higher in fat.
While I feel that even too much healthy fat is not ideal for optimal health, I do think that it is easy to be afraid of some healthy fats (nuts, seeds, avocados) when we shouldn’t be. I incorporate a healthy fat or high-protien food in almost all of my meals. You do not have to agree with this way of eating, if you prefer to eat mostly carbs, more power to you! I think that it is easy to get caught up in certain diets (both vegan and non-vegan) when ultimately, we should do what works for us and should not have to justify our decisions.
This smoothie is for those of you who want to enjoy an indulgent smoothie that actually has many health benefits. Containing nutrient dense foods such as chia seeds, almond butter, and coconut shavings, this smoothie is packed with all the GOOD fats that make a great post-workout smoothie. I personally only have this if the rest of my meals are higher in carbs, but that all depends on personal preference. Like I said, no need for strict rules.
I hope you enjoy this frosty, indulgent, and delicious chocolate coconut almond butter smoothie as much as I do! It is such a treat that you may even forget that it’s healthy-what beats that?
Indulge and feel good about it! Chocolate doesn’t have to be unhealthy and/or contaminated with dairy! I hope you give this a try! I really don’t think you’ll regret it!
