Oh the holidays……gifts, movies, commercialism, food, weight gain, guilt, shame…
Ok, this is probably just my personal narrative of the holidays.
I’m sure lots of you totally have self-control. I don’t.
If you’re like me and are trying to stay healthy during the holidays, look no further than my healthy chocolate covered strawberries. In yesterday’s post, I talked about how to stay healthy during this time of year, and one of my tips was picking a healthier option when possible. Well, here’s a healthier option.
Chocolate covered strawberries are definitely not exclusive to the holidays. You can enjoy this recipe anytime you want. I just know that I love a nice, rich chocolate strawberry during the holidays, and I have a feeling that I am not alone. Fellow chocolate strawberry lovers: you are welcome.
What makes these healthy chocolate covered strawberries so healthy? The chocolate sauce! I use date chocolate. You can make a really thick, delicious chocolate sauce out of dates, and if you haven’t tried it, you should!
My healthy chocolate covered strawberries will make you feel much lighter than if you were to eat 20 milk chocolate strawberries. You get a great helping of natural sugar, fiber, lots of great nutrients, and a satisfied sweet tooth. Can you think of anything better? Besides vegan cheesecake and vegan chicken nuggets, I sure can’t!
- 4-5 cups fresh strawberries
- 10 medjool dates
- 1 cup water
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- In a small blender or mini food processor, blend dates, water, and cocoa powder until sauce is smooth and there are minimal chunks. If mixture gets too dry, add more water
- Transfer to a bowl and either dip strawberries ahead of time or serve bowl with a platter of fresh strawberries
- Can be in freezer for about an hour before hand for the sauce to stick
