Another year has come and gone. For less than I week, I have been 22 years old. On Friday, I celebrated my birthday, and it lasted throughout the weekend. I had such a great 3 days, and I wanted to share what I did to celebrate my birthday, as well as talk about some of my goals/plans for the next year.
I began my day with a spin class. I tried to talk myself out of it, but I am glad that I didn’t. I needed to get my workout in. When I came home, I was greeted with flowers and an iced-tea maker from Teavana. I have always wanted one, and I love that Matthew remembered that. He is so thoughtful.
Later that evening, Matthew and I met my parents at a local vegan soul food restaurant called Quickie Too. They have the best vegan burgers, sandwiches, and the most amazing mac n yease. I got a mushroom melt, Matthew got a fish burger, and my mom tried a reuben. My dad is a total vegan skeptic (and hater), so he just had fries and mac n yease, both of which he liked. We also all shared a Reese Cup milkshake, which seriously tasted like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup. It was amazing.
After dinner, we went to my parent’s house and I was given a beautiful Whole Foods chocolate cake.
I got new running shoes (long overdue), and some new skincare products by Herbivore Botanicals and the Clarisonic (bout time). It was a really nice evening with my family, but Matthew had to go get ready for work, so we were home by about 8:30. A nice relaxing day before the crazy night that was ahead of us.
Saturday morning was beyond lazy. I swear I did nothing but lay in bed and eat leftover cake for lunch. At 3, I spent over 2 hours getting ready for my big night. I ended up loving my whole look.
Me, Matthew, and my closest friends all went to Mandolin Sushi because I am obsessed with their tofu bowls, and there were lots of food options for my friends. We all enjoyed ourselves.
We ended up finishing dinner early, and had an hour to kill. We went to our local barcade (bar arcade) and played air hockey, Guitar Hero, pinball, Pac Man, and more. It was just a nice fun way to kill an hour.
At 8:30, it was time to head to the main event: Keys on Main. It’s an awesome dueling piano bar with some insanely talented musicians. By the time we were seated, I was given a big Malibu bucket (I ended up having 3 that night plus one there drink….whoops). Eventually, later on in the show, my friends requested that I get up on stage. The guys sang me a song letting Matthew know about my previous sexual ventures. After it was done, they sang me Happy Birthday and gave me a hug. I love how welcoming and kind they are. The people at Keys are always so fun, and it’s by far my favorite place to go.
We ended up leaving after midnight, and boy did I feel sick after. I definitely won’t be drinking like that for a very, very long time. Still, I had such an amazing night. Even though I was sick by the end, I felt like a million bucks for the majority of the time. I had such an amazing time with my awesome friends.
After waking up with a massive hangover, Matthew and I took a bus to downtown Seattle for my favorite place ever: Veggie Grill. I swear I usually only get appetizers (wings, nachos, fries, etc.), but I still get so sad when my food is almost gone. I wish more than anything that a VG opens closer to home. After lunch, Matthew and I just walked around and shopped. We got some stuff at LUSH (he got soap, I got the Grease Lighting spot treatment), Teavana, and Nordstrom-picked up a Charlotte Tilbury mascara and I can’t wait to see how it goes!
By about 5:30, we were ready to get back. I’ve been to Pike Place and the Space Needle a million times so I really just like to walk around downtown and look at shops. The touristy areas aren’t very fun to walk around in cause they’re so busy (understandably so, lots of cool things to see in Seattle).
When we got home, life got well…normal. I spent the night planning out my week, getting ready to finish up school for the year, and started to clean up the mess of new birthday gifts on my floor. Reality definitely hit me, but I have such a new sense of determination to really get stuff done this year. I have so many plans, and I really wanted to share some with you.
Goals For the Year
By the time I’m 23:
I hope to earn my Group Exercise Certification so that I can start teaching Beliraq at 1 or 2 locations
Run a 5K, a 10K, and train for a half-marathon
Find a psychology-related volunteer project and get involved in my school’s psych club
Make Dean’s List for each quarter of school
Keep working on growing the blog and maybe release an ebook or two (I have lots of ideas in the works)
Continue to eat a clean diet
Continue researching natural skincare and work on recipes for your own products (to maybe be sold one day??? we’ll see)
Overall, I just want keep working on being happy and healthy. I want to keep forming healthy habits, and I want to keep going with my weightloss and my work in school. I want to take on more projects and work hard on what I love. I want to have as much fun as I can and continue experiencing as much as I can. I finally feel so comfortable with myself, and I feel that I can accomplish anything that I set my mind to. I am only 22. I have so much to learn and so much to experience, and I want to enjoy every moment.
I know that I will experience plenty of ups and downs, but I want to learn from it all. I want to take time everyday to focus on what I am grateful for, and what I can work on.
I also want to continue on with the blog because I have really enjoyed the 6 weeks that I have been writing and working on Simply Overjoyed. I have lots of cool posts in the works, and I am very excited to continue to learn with each post that I publish. This is just the start.
My 22nd birthday was wonderful, and I can’t wait to see where this next year takes me.
